Amalgamated, we refer to this loop as "Mulholland Raceway North." This loop rates a 5 on our 5 scale. Drives best clockwise. Fair warning: It's fast... a blindingly fast 52.3 mile lap (exactly) across the desert and through the forest. Everything from first gear switchbacks, and hyper fast natural chicanes, to dips taken well into triple digits. If you run Mulholland Raceway North, and you get good at it, then you'll be a real terror next time you do a track event. Total change in elevation we haven't summed. But the range (Max-Min) is approximately 1,300 ft. Measured by my wrist watch, peak elevation was 4,140 ft (4.7 miles west of Lake Hughes Rd on Pine Canyon). Lowest elevation recorded was 2,960 ft (Muntz @ Lancaster Rd).
Advisory: Watch for the tricky left hand turn at Three Points. You'll bear down hard from triple digits to make that left. Be sure to make the right hand turn off Hwy 138 onto 245th Street West. If you go over the aquaduct, then you've gone too far. You'll have to behave yourself on Hwy 138... It's aggressively patrolled (it's the only part of this loop that is). During Spring, Lancaster Rd west of Muntz gets clotted by thousands of people who come to see the desert poppies bloom (the Poppy Festival). So, let's be careful on Lancaster Road, during springtime.
Keep the lid on MRN. Let's keep Mulholland Raceway North to ourselves. Okay?
